Keep your money in your bank account with some energy-saving information

summer energy saving arizonaIt’s coming up on summer here in northern Arizona. And that means when you make your way inside from the sun, you’ll likely be cranking the air conditioning as high as it will go! And that’s not without good reason – after all, the average high temperature here in the summer is about 80 degrees, and the mercury can soar into the upper 90s with ease.

Between the air conditioning, electronics for work and entertainment, home appliances, and lighting, you may be dreading your summer energy bills.

Good news: You don’t have to! We have some solutions that can lower your energy costs without sacrificing comfort and convenience.

Get your air conditioning serviced

If you haven’t done this already, now is the time to do it so you’re ready for summer. After all, the last thing you want if for your air conditioning to break down.

Not only does regular maintenance help prevent breakdowns of your home’s air conditioning system, it also helps keep the A/C running at its best possible efficiency. And when you consider that cooling your home can make up half of your energy costs this time of year, that can add up to some pretty sweet savings.

Turn down your water heater

Most water heaters are installed with a factory-set temperature setting of 140˚ Fahrenheit. By lowering your water heater thermostat to 120˚, you’ll still be able to still enjoy comfortable showers and do household tasks like laundry without noticing a difference. You could be saving hundreds of dollars a year on energy costs! A lower temperature is also better for your water heater because it slows mineral buildup and corrosion in your water heater and pipes.

Making this adjustment can save up to 15% on your water heating energy costs. And when you realize that water heating makes up about 20% of your home’s energy costs, which is fairly substantial.

Want another way to lower your energy costs when it comes to water heating? A propane tankless water heater can lower your water heating energy costs by up to 40%! We can help you find the right one for your home and your family’s needs.

Upgrade your light bulbs

If you’re still using incandescent light bulbs, you’re adding to your home’s energy costs. There are cost-effective alternatives that can help you save money, and don’t heat up your home as much as incandescent bulbs do. Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) use less than one-third the energy of incandescent bulbs and last up to 25 times longer. Compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) use about one-quarter the energy of traditional incandescent bulbs and last up to 10 times longer.

Use your programmable thermostat the right way

Turning your air conditioning setting 7 to 10 degrees higher for eight hours a day can cut your cooling costs by 10%. Programmable thermostats help you do that because you set it once and it automatically adjusts to your settings every day. There are also smart thermostats you can control via your home’s WiFi and your smartphone or tablet!
